How Liam was convinced to play Matt Scudder

In an interview from September 2014, writer and director Scott Frank spoke about how he convinced Liam to take on the role of Matt Scudder. 
"At our first meeting, Liam was concerned that the role of Scudder was to similar to Bryan Mills from " Taken " movie... Kidnapping  ...a meaningful and short phone call  ... and he was cautious about it. I recommended him to watch the movie " Klute " from 1971 and said to Liam, 'That's the kind of movie we're going to make. A bit like " Dirty Harry ". One of those old-school movies from the 1970s. That's convinced Liam. "
Interestingly, novelist Larry Block had been saying since 2003, that Liam Neeson would be the perfect actor for this role , after seeing him in "Micheal Collins" . Liam's agent  Chris Andrews had been enthusiastic about the script for sometime and was always trying to find a way to to get it to Liam.  And it was Chris , who gave him the script and sparked Liam's interest in the film. At that time, DJ Caruso was still being considered as director. But he dropped out shortly afterwards and I took over the direction. So,  when I first met Liam to talk to him about the movie and his intended role,  I was still the screen writer, not the director of the movie. "
I like "A Walk Among the Tombstone" and would have liked to see you again in the role of Matt Scudder. I always have to smile when Scudder and his little friend TJ talk about detectives and the name 'Marlowe' is mentioned.  If you had known that a few years later you would be playing the role of Philip Marlowe... 
...and in the "Marlowe" story, Marlowe and Clare's mother talk about Michael Collins. So the circle is complete.

Memory was the first film that I featured on my Liam Neeson fan page. I don't even know how many times I've seen the film. Definitely not as often as "The Marksman" . When Natasha was asked:" What was it like to see your mother, Vanessa Redgrave, on stage or screen when you were growing up?" Natasha answered:" Well, I didn't see her much on stage, because at that period of her life I don't think she was on stage much. I think it had a profound effect on me. I took it very real, but not only because she's such a great actress, but, you know, when I'd see her as "Isadora" ,you know, died at the end, I'd get doubly upset.  And my mother would say,' no, it's okay, I'm here.
