A film that is unfortunately still missing from my collection.

Last Saturday, while searching for a photo for this post, I came across an interview Liam gave in 1993 around the release of his film 'Ethan Frome'.

"I read the screenplay first, then the book," Liam said in the interview. "You know, in the book, an engineer originally comes to town, but in the film, the writers made the character I play a minister. I thought that was a very good idea to tell the story of these unique people. Good story, I really like it. The screenplay was really well written and did a good job of adapting the novel."

"You know, Edith Wharton actually hated the screen and stipulated in her will that none of her books should ever be filmed on silver nitrate, as was the custom at the time. But after a few years the book entered the public domain and could finally be made into a film."
For information:
It used to be standard to shoot movies on silver nitrate. However, due to its extremely high flammability and risk of decomposition, acetate film was replaced by acetate film starting in the 1950s.

"There, in Hollywood, I'm actually perceived as a European. Unlike in England, where I've always been the Irishman," Liam said in the interview, speaking with his Irish accent.
"The story of Ethan Frome takes place in wintry New England, and filming took place in a small village near Vermont and was very strenuous because of the cold."
I posted the following part last Sunday as part 264 entitled "Pay when you stop by" in my series about Liam on Instagram. But I don't want to take this interview apart and I'm adding the part here today.
"I lived in a very nice little house in the middle of nowhere. There was a small grocery store two miles down the road," Liam said in 1993 about his time during the filming of 'Ethan Frome'. "When I got home on the evening of the third day of filming, there was a box full of groceries and a note waiting for me on my doorstep. The note read, 'I thought you might need this. Just pay when you stop by or when you have a moment.' The people in that little town were wonderful and lovely."

This was the Instagram post from March 15, 2026.
When asked about the book and the story, Liam said, "They follow their hearts, as we all do, while maintaining the right perspective. They are simple people from the countryside who live in a very different time. It's a very religious community," Liam explained. "Ethan is married to Zeena, and he treats her very badly. She craves affection, tenderness, and security, which Ethan refuses to give her. And because she doesn't get it, she attacks him. It's a complicated relationship." Ethan had steadily suppressed his feelings and isolated himself over the years he lived and worked with Zeena on the farm. And then, suddenly, this girl enters his life, the one who holds the key to unlocking his heart. She opens up a world to him that he thought was forever closed to him. This young woman had the heart, the key that unlocked that door for him.

"Ethan had this accident, and I had to portray a crippled man. It wasn't easy at all to contort myself and portray a man marked by pain and suffering." "I knew that back then, if you broke your arm, they would set it," Liam said, and then added, "As for the leg, we wanted to avoid bandages and sticks, and I tried to play a limping man in pain without any aids." I think I managed it reasonably well against the snow-white backdrop."
From here we continue with the fourth part of my 'One Photo, One Story' series about Liam Neeson:

Ethan succumbs to the young woman's charm and the two begin an affair.
Maidin mhaith, a Liam a ghrá. Guím lá iontach síochánta ort agus tá súil agam go mbeimid in ann cupán tae a bheith againn le chéile agus comhrá a dhéanamh go luath. Tabhair aire mhaith duit féin agus do do theaghlach agus fan sláintiúil. Tá sé iontach go bhfuil tú anseo. Go raibh maith agat as gach rud atá déanta agat, as do thacaíocht do UNICEF. Ag seoladh barróg chroíúil chugat... Tá súil agam go bhfuil sin ceart go leor.
